Mark Montondo (any pronouns) is a genderqueer researcher, performer, and the creator of drag character Ms. Golden Delicious, currently pursuing their PhD in Theatre at The Ohio State University. After receiving a BFA in Musical Theatre at SUNY Fredonia in 2015, Montondo went on to pursue drag performance as Ms. Golden Delicious in New York City, performing at venues like Joe’s Pub, Union Hall and the Duplex Cabaret, among others. She also co-created the first weekly Drag Brunch in Astoria, Queens at Fresco's Cantina in 2018, which went on to win the inaugural award for Best Drag Brunch at the 2023 GLAM Awards. Golden’s one-woman-show GOOD JOB! premiered in New York City before a successful run at the 2019 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Her sophomore solo effort The Perfect, Fabulous Life of Ms. Golden Delicious made its world premiere at the Rochester Fringe Festival in September 2022. Mark has also taught the art of drag with the Brooklyn Comedy Collective (2019) and The Focus Theater (2023.) In February 2022, Montondo was awarded an MA in Theatre and Performance from the University at Buffalo, where they researched topics including queer theory, alternate archives, and the intersection of musical theatre and drag as a site of cultural and knowledge production and labor. Montondo’s current research interests include pre-stonewall drag performance troupes, the drag boom of the 1990’s, and the afterlives of the AIDS crisis. He currently serves as the Communications Coordinator for the Musical Theatre Dance Association at ATHE.
