Income provides tuition scholarship awards to undergraduate and graduate students with a major of specialized interest in the Departments of Art, Art Education, History of Art, Theatre or Dance.

American Playwrights Theatre Scholarship in Playwriting
Income provides scholarship to students who have demonstrated exceptional talent and ability in dramatic writing. It may also provide funding for a guest playwright to be in residence to teach playwriting and participate in the production program of the Department of Theatre.

Dr. Katie Whitlock Memorial Fund
Income supports grad students majoring in the Department of Theatre who are participating in the London Theatre Study Abroad Program or its successor and demonstrate financial need. Also supports grad students in other international travel for research.

Income supports a graduate fellowship in cinema or video with preference to a student whose major area is studio, laboratory, historical, or theoretical studies in cinema or in video. The selected student must be an enrolled candidate for the Master of Arts degree in cinema.

Because of this scholarship, I have been able to continue my studies at this university at a very pivotal time for me.
I am a Senior Theatre Major who has faced financial difficulties as a single college student. I now work at the Jerome Schottenstein Center as a Press Conference Sound Board Operator for the games held at the Arena.
I mostly cover Men’s & Woman’s Basketball, and Men’s Ice Hockey. I also work as a Stagehand and recently had the opportunity to meet Shania Twain!
I am so grateful for this generous opportunity that has led to so much abundance, and for giving me a chance to put my best foot forward.

First, I want to thank you for your gratitude in granting me this scholarship! It truly helps me out so much, and every little bit helps.
Going to college as an out-of-state student can get costly, so it truly means the world to me to receive this scholarship.
Currently, I am a second-year theatre major here at The Ohio State University, but I am thinking of double majoring in either accounting or finance.
The theatre has always been something I was passionate about, and after performing on stage for the first time in 6th grade as Winthrop in Music Man at my high school musical, I knew it was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
I decided on OSU because they had just gotten a new theatre building, and I loved the campus.
Once I graduate from OSU, I plan on going into acting, whether that be stage acting or film acting, I’m not sure yet, but I’m sure I will figure it out soon enough.
OSU has helped me step out of my comfort zone and has taught me so much about myself in only 1 year, so I am excited for what the next 3 or 4 have in store for me.
The one thing that I have done that I am most proud of is graduating with my associate’s degree in science at the same time as graduating high school. I just want to thank you once again for your generosity.

Since 7th grade, I knew I wanted to commit my life to acting and performing because nothing has made me feel more alive, more engulfed with passion, than being onset or onstage.
I told my mom I wanted to gain experience and join an agency, and that was that. I am incredibly lucky to have parents who support my big and unconventional dreams, as well as a support network at OSU that does the same.
Meeting new people has always been a favorite hobby of mine, and I even wrote my college application essay on my love for people, so I knew I not only wanted but NEEDED to attend a big school with tons of potential connections.
OSU did NOT disappoint—it’s a surreal feeling to see how many people gather for game day or lay in the sun in the Oval during the spring. Being such a popular university, however, the expenses are reflective of the prestige.
Making the choice to be the first person in my immediate family to get a college degree was a bit daunting, but we all knew it was the right path.
My father was especially concerned about how we were going to pay for it, because while he set up a 529 for me and my sister, the amount in there wouldn’t even cover a year.
Scholarships are genuinely the only reason we haven’t had to take loans out yet, which is amazing! Student debt is like a ghost that is constantly reminding you that you’re never fully out of debt, so I feel more than lucky to have none so far.
It’s thanks to generous donors like you that students like me are given the opportunity to attend university and be first generation examples for our younger siblings.
Because of this funding, I’m going to be an Ohio State alum which is a very special thing to be.
The connections I’ll make here and friends that will last for my lifetime are immeasurable, and I can’t thank you enough for your generosity to make my best year of my life possible.
