Ohio State Murders Headed to Broadway

Adrienne Kennedy

Ohio State Murders by Adrienne Kennedy (BS '53, DRH '03) is headed to Broadway in November. This will be the first time one of Kennedy's plays opens on Broadway despite a long and lauded career. Six-time Tony-Award-winning Audra McDonald (Suzanne Alexander) will lead the production in the first show to play at the newly christened James Earl Jones Theatre under the direction of Tony Award winner Kenny Leon.

Suzanne Alexander is a semi-autobiographical character appearing in several of Kennedy's plays. Ohio State Murders explores Alexander's experiences as one of a handful of Black freshmen at The Ohio State University in the 1950s. Kennedy's lyrical and surreal plays address the violence of racism

In 2020, Round House Theatre featured the artist in a month-long festival, "The Work of Adrienne Kennedy: Inspiration and Influence". A series of panel sessions on Kennedy's influence can be watched on Round House Theatre's YouTube channel.
