A celebrated element of our three-year Master of Fine Arts in Theatre program, the Solo Festival features eight compelling original solo works. Sharing their diverse, vibrant, and urgent artistic voices in a festival atmosphere, the graduate actors challenge themselves to discover new creative possibilities and challenge their audiences to experience our collective humanity in new ways. The festival is divided into two casts, Scarlet and Grey, performing on alternating nights.
"Body of the State" by Francis Miller
This lottery-style performance piece explores one person's pursuit of gender-affirming care, theatricalizing their experience of gender, bureaucracy, community, and how it feels to exist in a body that is regulated and legislated by their own government.
"Decolonizing Me" by Paitton Lewis
How do you begin to reclaim your identity when it is actively depleting? #supportindigenous
"A Searching Soul" by Angelina Steshenko
A pilgrimage of rediscovering identity through language, immigration, and war. Dedicated to immigrants, refugees, and all those who are searching.
"little Queer" by Chris Quiroz
If big things come in small packages, this show is no exception. A pop-filled, colorful romp down the fabulous and traumatic hall of memory. This is a show for sensitive boys. For boys who hide what makes them special. For anyone really, as long as you're kind! What does it mean to recover? You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll ask yourself..."where are his pants?".
