You don't have to be a theatre major take advantage of opportunities and courses that can help you develop and hone these skillsets. Whether you were active in theatre in high school or always wanted to be, you are welcome to join us onstage, backstage, and in the studio.
Theatre Courses Open to Non-Majors with No Prerequisite
A hands-on laboratory experience in producing theatrical events. Students in these courses serve as members of a production team creating the events presented in the theatre's season of plays. No experience is necessary as all students receive individual training.

Theatre Production Lab is a 1-credit laboratory course that meets 1 day/week, 2:20 - 5:15pm.
A study of the art and profession of theatre, with an emphasis on evaluating and appreciating live performance, theatre's cultural importance, and its relationship to issues of social diversity. Students study performance conventions, texts, & spaces from ancient times to present day. While not an acting class, students get firsthand experience in the collaborative process of theatre creation.

Introduction to Theatre is a 3-credit lecture/recitation course with multiple sections. Honors sections are also available.
Introduction to design for theatre and live events including scenic, costume, lighting, sound, and media design.
GEN Foundation: Literary, Visual & Performing Arts
Introduction to Production Design is a 3-credit lecture course.
An introductory acting class exploring the basic techniques of imagination, concentration, character development, and script analysis through work on monologues, scenes, and plays.

The Craft of Acting is a 3-credit laboratory course with multiple sections.
Hands-on production experience running a theatrical event. Students serve as members of a production crew running for one of the shows presented in the theatre's season of plays. There are no conventional class meetings. Consists of one orientation meeting and three weeks of evening/weekend productions. Duties may include working within any design area of the production. No experience necessary.
Theatre Production Run Crew is a 1-credit laboratory course with two production opportunities each semester.
Individual theatrical performance and production activities at an advanced level under faculty supervision.
Prereq: Permission of instructor.
Advanced Production Lab: Stage Management is a 3-credit laboratory course with two production opportunities each semester.
