Assistant Professor Hao Zhou's Work Receives International Recognition

The department’s newest faculty member, Assistant Professor Hao Zho, is getting recognized for his work in documentary filmmaking.

Ru Ni Sua Yuan” (“Correct Me if I’m Wrong”) is a short documentary that premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Zhou was inspired to make the film to document a journey through complex emotions and tensions within his family. It received the Jury Award for Short Documentary at the BlackStar Film Festival. Receiving this award qualifies the film for consideration by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (the “Oscars”).

Ru Ni Sua Yuan” has also been selected by and received recognition from several international film festivals including ZINEBI Bilbao, Hamptons International Film Festival, Toronto Reel Asian, Hawaii International Film Festival, Cork International Film Festival, Tallgrass Film Festival, International Documentary Association, and the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.

An upcoming feature project, All Fixed Up, was selected to participate in the IDFA Forum hosted by the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam where it received Best Pitch Award. This project also won top documentary pitch prizes at Tokyo Docs and the CNEX Chinese Documentary Forum and received support through competitive sources including IDFA Bertha Classic, Chicken and Egg, and Queer|Art.
