Esther Kim Lee (PhD, theatre '00), Frances Hill Professor of Theater Studies, International Comparative Studies, and History and Director of Asian American and Diaspora Studies at Duke University received the John W. Frick Book Award from the American Theater and Drama Society for Made-Up Asians: Yellowface During the Exclusion Era (Michigan University Press, 2022).

The award honors the best monograph published on theatre and performance of/in the Americas. The award was presented at the 2023 Association for Theatre in Higher Education conference.
