Adrienne Kennedy

Ohio State Murders by Obie winner Adrienne Kennedy (BS, education '53; DRH, '03) is receiving a lot of attention this season. In addition to being produced as part of the Round House Theatre's critically acclaimed month-long festival of Kennedy's work, BroadwaysBestShows.com produced a staged reading featuring Tony winner Audra McDonald June 3 - 7 as part of its Spotlight on Plays. This series focused on seven female playwrights and benefitted The Actors Fund.

June 17 - 20, the Goodman Theatre in Chicago is live-streaming a production of Ohio State Murders, directed by Tiffany Nicole Green.

Kennedy's lyrical and surreal plays address the violence of racism. Ohio State Murders, one of her many autobiographically inspired plays, explores Suzanne Alexander's experiences as one of a handful of Black freshmen at The Ohio State University in the 1950s.

The department produced Ohio State Murders as part of its 2000-2001 season.
