Students must be in good academic standing with the university in order to audition. Students on academic probation will not be cast.Ohio State Theatre auditions for Trouble in Mind, Henry V, InterACT and the Lab Series will be held Thursday, October 9 and Friday, October 10 between 6:00pm and 9:30pm in the New Works Lab (DR 2060) at The Drake Performance and Event Center.Call Back Notices will be emailed and posted Friday, October 10 after 11pm on the south glass doors near the loading dock of the Drake Performance and Event Center - it is the Actor's responsibility to check the Call Back notices.Callbacks will occur Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12. Also, see the Trouble in Mind character break down:WILETTA MAYER: African-American; attractive, middle-aged actress; expansive personality; a veteran of the theatre 25 plus years; must be able to sing gospel / spirituals.HENRY: White; a proud Irishman; the theatre’s doorman, 78 years old, slightly hard of hearing, nostalgic, great love of the theatre (used to be a theatre electrician), kind natured and mild-mannered but can flash to anger when provoked.JOHN NEVINS: African-American; fresh out of collage and eager; his training gives him a sense of superiority; feels the need to distance and distinguish himself from the other Negroes in the room.MILLIE DAVIS: African-American; an actress about 35 years old, dresses to the nines but her taste for the finer things outweighs her income; opinionated and can use Mmm-hmm to mean thirty-five different thingsJUDITH SEARS: White; young actress fresh out of Yale; the girl next door type; eager and enthusiastic but nervous and still unsure of herself; a girl trying to be a womanSHELDON FORRESTER: African-American; elderly character actor; a simple man, uneducated but not stupid; goes along to get alongAL MANNERS: White, early 40s; the director, a well-tweeded product of Hollywood; a bundle of energy; can be very affable but quick-tempered; touts himself the well-intended liberal, but doesn’t see his own blind spots; considerate and understanding after his own fashion, selfish and tactless after oursEDDIE FENTON: White; the young stage manager; eager and quick, but no matter how hard he tries cannot seem to avoid Al’s wrathBILL O’WRAY: White, a middle-aged character actor; acts with great conviction and gravitas, but as himself he is apprehensive and a bit of a worrywartOnline registration is available.  Drake 2060 (New Works Lab) Department of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts theatreandfilm@osu.edu America/New_York public

Select one:

  • 1 monologue totaling no more than 3 minutes in length
  • 2 monologues totaling no more than 4 minutes in length
  • A text that you will perform, totaling no more than 3 minutes in length
  • If you are auditioning for the role of Wiletta for Trouble in Mind, include an a cappella gospel song or spiritual.
