Schedule
Friday, September 11th
7:00 pm: Writers will receive their prompts and be paired with a director (TFM 435).
7:30 pm: Auditions will be held to cast the short plays or short films (TFM 435).
Writers will then have the remainder of the night to finish their plays or scripts.
Saturday, September 12th
7:00 am: Plays and scripts are due. Writers must email them before the deadline.
7:30 am: Directors will receive their play or script and will have until 5:30 pm to rehearse or film.
5:30 pm: We will set the order of the plays and films. All participants are required to meet at the Multipurpose Theatre Lab (TFM 435).
7:00 pm: Screening of short films (TFM 380).
8:00 pm: Performance of short plays (TFM 435).
Additional Information
Time Commitment
Students should be available for the full 24-hour period. While they may not be working the entire time, it will be very difficult for teams to work together if they have to account for different schedules. That being said, writers are not required to attend rehearsals/filming if they need some rest, but they are welcome to come.
Writers
Plays or scripts should be no more than 10 minutes long. Generally speaking, one page of a play or script equates to 1 minute of stage or film time. Writers will also have to incorporate a provided prompt (or twist). For example, students may be asked to make your play a musical. Depending on how many people sign up, students will either work solo or on a writing team.
Directors
Given the festival's time constraints, stage directors will not be able to use any complicated lighting or sound effects. If they want to do lights up or down, or do something practical on stage, they are allowed to; they just can’t use the lighting or sound boards. Directors will also be responsible for providing their own props. The Rehearsal Rooms 1 and 2 have been reserved for all of Saturday. On Friday evening, each team will be given a time slot to rehearse or film in one of the rooms.
For film directors, we do have equipment available to check out from the Film/Video Equipment Room (TFM 315). These include cameras and accessories, such as tripods. They are not required to use this equipment if they have their own, and they can even shoot with their phone.
Actors
Again, due to the quick turnaround, actors may be in only one production. Actors should come prepared to auditions on Friday evening with a monologue, song, or a special talent.
